LOCAL historian Mike Royden is being interviewed by Dean Sullivan on City Talk 105.9FM this afternoon at 1.45pm about a new set of Liverpool maps.

Printed by Cassini, the set is made up of four 1:50,000 maps from four different periods giving a series of bird's-eye views of the city and its surrounding countryside. A detailed 1:10,000 map lets you explore the mid-19th century city street by street.

Rocket mug up for auction

mug1.jpgTHIS mug was designed in Liverpool to celebrate the advent of the railways.

One of the transfers on its side depicts George Stephenson's Rocket, which beat four other engines (although two of them dropped out due to mechanical problems) to win the Rainhill Trials of 1829 and a £500 prize.

New book about Medieval Chester
