Lime Street Station in black and white

By Laura Davis on Nov 20, 08 08:00 AM

limest3.jpgIF YOU drive past Lime Street Station you can see the row of shops at the front being pulled down. It seems a good opportunity for looking back at some of the images of the station in our archive.

I don't know the dates of them all so if you can help me out I'd be very grateful. The image on the left was taken in 1966.

Hi Laura, I'm seeking information regarding the large picture/collage that spans the wall of Lime St Station (actual location left of doors that lead to Lime St). I'm interested as my Uncle recently told me that a picture of him, my Mum and their Mum exists amongst many others in the collage. My Mum has been to visit and confirmed that it is the 3 of them. My Mum thinks the pic of her was taken circa 1951, the picture of her brother taken circa 1949 and the picture of their Mum was taken circa 1950 when my Mum was on her honeymoon in Barnmouth. She also tells me the three photos are set on top of a picture of a ship. She remembers this was a novel way of seaman to send Christmas cards home with a picture of his/her family on the ship they were currently serving. This would tie in nicely with my Mums brother who was a seaman. Would you happen to know who created the collage as my Mum and her brother would like to know were the photo originated. If you aren't in possession of the creators name/contact details are you aware of a particular organsiation that is responsible for the pictures at the station and may be able to help?. Staff at the station, although helpful, could not assist in my Mums on the spot investigations.
Many thanks, Ian Morgan

Hi Ian, I'm just checking this out for you. It was commissioned by the BBC but the person who was in charge of the project has since left. I will let you know as soon as I have more information.
