The Liverpool Youth orchestra, sporting some fine bobble-hats, conducted by Stanley Gill, serenades passengers boarding SS Devonia, at Princes Landing Stage, prior to the British India liner's last voyage from Liverpool on November 5, 1967. Popular operating cruises for schools, she was previously a Bibby Line troopship. Code: tmc300309lookback.jpg

Stop - you're over-acting! Mugging mummers Terry Taplin, left, and Paul Harman give it the full thespian welly during a scene from Samuel Beckett's Endgame at the Liverpool Everyman, in January, 1966. Mind you, half the cast spent the play stuck in dustbins, so any exuberance on being let out is understandable. Code: tmc200409lookback

AS MARK Rothko's Seagram Murals are enjoying such attention at Tate Liverpool, it seems only fitting to make this week's photograph and image of their last visit in 1988, as part of the gallery's opening exhibitions.

I'VE put together a slideshow of photographs my grandfather took of Woolton in the 1950s that I'm using as the basis of a feature in the Daily Post about what the town was really like when John Lennon was growing up there.

I'm hoping it will stir some memories and that people who lived there at around the same time, and who would like to be included in the feature, will get in touch.

Video of old Liverpool photos

I FOUND this wonderful slideshow of photos of old Liverpool while cruising You Tube. I particularly like the images that show buildings that we know so well today still in the middle of being constructed.

Enjoy...

AS LAST week's image of boating in Princes Park proved so popular, with lots of messages on the Pool of Life Twitter account, I'm sticking to the park theme with this photo taken in October 1972.

Life before Liverpool One (can you imagine such a thing?), in September, 1965, as these two young women stroll across the seemingly limitless parking around South John Street, with the usual range of almost entirely UK-built cars, but, as always, there is the ubiquitous VW Beetle lurking if you look hard enough
